At the Tree Thump
Didjeridu Company, we're
excited to share our passion for didjeridus with you! Why not expand
your horizons and get your groove on by learning more about the playing
techniques and cultural background of this unique and exciting
instrument? Like any musical instrument, the didjeirdu takes practice
to play well, but with a little bit of guidance you'll be able to
produce good basic sounds and start making your own didj music in
a matter of months!
Didjeridu Lessons
Hi, my name is Phil Clark, and
I am an experienced music teacher, with a bachelor's degree in music
performance from Arizona State, and a master's in ethnomusicology from
the University of Illinois. I have been playing and teaching didjeridu
for over ten
years, and have spent close to a full year in Aboriginal communities in
northern Australia, learning the history, playing techniques, and
craftsmanship practices of the didjeridu.
I offer weekly and biweekly lessons out of my home studio in
Champaign, IL, for students of all ages. Lessons are typically one hour
long and my fee is $30 an hour for adults, and $20 an hour for school-
and college-aged students. No prior musical experience is necessary, as
I tailor lessons to the musical goals and abilities of each student.
You'll
learn all of the basic techniques you need to start making your own
didj music in a matter of months! For intermediate students I can help
refine your didj playing with advanced techniques including Aboriginal
tonguing styles, bounce-breathing, and passive voice. You'll also pick
up plenty of fun facts and stories about the cultural background of the
didjeridu, and benefit from Phil's firsthand experience of one of the
oldest and most complex didjeridu traditions in Australia.
For
more information on lessons, including our introductory "Make
and
Play Your Own Didjeridu" special, you can check out Phil's profile on
teachstreet.com, or

Workshops and Performances
Phil
and Ben also offer a wide variety of
didjeridu-related
programs in the greater
East-Central Illinois area. We offer everything from beginning
didjeridu and cicular breathing classes, to infotainment presentations
for school assemblies, to background didjeridu music for corporate
events. We also handle booking for the five-piece didjeridu-driven rock
band
Tree Thump!
If you're interested in our workshops or performances, please
contact us to discuss what you
have in mind
and our availability. Rates for workshops and
performances are negotiable, and depend on the size of the event and
the nature of the hosting institution or facility.
You can also catch us busking around the Champaign-Urbana area from
time to time, and at arts festivals throughout the region, showing off
our instruments and spreading the word about the didjeridu. To see
where
and when we'll be playing, find us on
Facebook.
